San Francisco
One of the most diverse and densely populated cities in the nation, San Francisco is a truly beautiful west coast gem. We are proud to announce San Francisco as the site of the Maiytra 2008 convention.

We have a scavenger hunt planned that will take you on an exciting hands-on whirlwind tour through San Francisco. You'll relive the history, experience the unique Frisco culture, and check out all the sites. See the Golden Gate Bridge, climb Coit Tower, shop in Union Square, watch the sea lions at Fisherman's Wharf (and make sure you have some delicious clam chowder), see some bison in Golden Gate Park, take a ride down crooked Lombard Street, and get locked up in Alcatraz. Experience it all this summer! |
The many wildly varying neighborhoods of San Francisco create diversity in this eclectic town. Chinatown, Japantown, North Beach (Little Italy), Castro (progressive gay community), Pacific Heights, Marina, Tenderloin, Soma, and the Financial Disctrict. The night life in San Francisco is a vibrant scene that you'll definitely catch a glimpse of during the convention. Come see it all this 4th of July weekend! Better yet, take the week off!
Curious about a little history? In the 1770s, the Spanish settled in San Francisco. In 1848, the Gold Rush brought flocks of people to the city, allowing it to quickly flourish and boom. California grew at an exponential rate and was ratified as a state in 1850. The famous Fort Mason was constructed in 1864 as a line of defenses during the Civil War. In 1906, a mighty earthquake and fire tore through the town, demolishing San Francisco, leaving half of its population homeless. Not to worry though, it was all rebuilt in no time.
See you in July!
